Our Band Goes To State
By Lexi Schrag
Band making it to state is obviously a big deal at EPHS. This year the State competition was held in Grand Junction, which meant a long drive for Estes Park band members, six hours to be exact. Those who are in band, woke up at 5:30 AM the morning after arriving in Grand Junction. Once they arrived, the set up their instruments and equipment and had half an hour to practice for their awaited performance at 9:00 that morning.
After all the bands at state had performed, Estes Park had been requested to perform again at six that night for finals alongside three other bands. After everything was all said and done Estes had brought home the win for the second year in a row. 1st year band member, and Melaphone player, Anna Greenway, said “The bus ride wasn’t so bad, we stopped for food on the way. The whole thing was awesome”.
Freshman and tenor drummer, Steel Wolf said “It was great. Scary at first, but overall a good time”. Sophomore and clarinet player, Mae Tice said, “It was fun. We saw other bands and swam in the pool at our hotel. It was a good experience because you got to bond and get to know everyone better. It was really fun and nerve-wracking to find out who won. I’d go again”.
Here’s to hoping that Estes will return to state for many years to come.
